It is believed to be the <strong>earliest known name of the town of Simav<\/strong>, located in K\u00fctahya, western Anatolia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The word <strong>Synaos<\/strong> likely evolved from the Luwian root <em>\u201cAnauwa,\u201d<\/em> meaning \u201ca place by the lake\u201d or \u201ca pathway along the slope.\u201d This etymology resonates perfectly with the geographic character of Simav \u2014 nestled between mountains and enriched by natural springs and lakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the Hellenistic and Roman periods, the area became known as <strong>Synaos<\/strong>, a name that also carries the meaning of <em>\u201cshared sanctuary\u201d<\/em> or <em>\u201ctemple in common.\u201d<\/em> This interpretation beautifully reflects our association&#8217;s mission of <strong>bringing people together around shared values, dialogue, and cultural heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, <strong>Synaos was an important city in ancient Phrygia<\/strong> and later a coin-minting and episcopal center in the Roman and Byzantine periods. Evliya \u00c7elebi, the renowned Ottoman traveler, refers to this region as <em>Simavna<\/em>, suggesting that the current name <em>Simav<\/em> may have derived from Persian origins (<em>Sim-ab<\/em>), meaning \u201csilver water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Why Synaos?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By choosing <strong>Synaos<\/strong> as the name of our think tank and cultural platform, we aim to <strong>honor our roots<\/strong>, <strong>embrace diversity<\/strong>, and <strong>revive the intellectual and cultural legacy<\/strong> of our region.
